Recently, I have been busy doing random stuff in our home; this is the benefit of being self-employed and working from home. I can do household chores and do my side job online; I am working at home for over 8 years now, and I enjoy it. You are your own boss; you don’t need to commute, drive to the office, or your workplace. During the winter season, you don’t need to drive to the cold and snowy roads. And working from during this Pandemic is a good advantage too.
While being self-employed and working from home is convenient, you can face many challenges. But, this can’t outdo the freedom of working at home. If you are planning to do work from home, consider the following.
First, If you plan to work from home, you have to gear up the complete technology you will need in your home office. You need to have a reliable internet connection, desktop, printer, and other software that you need to do your job.
Secondly, what are your vision? What kind of work you want to do while working at home. Do you want to start a business? If so, what type of business do you have in mind? How are you going to do it? If you are not a business-minded person, are you going to apply to a company that offers home-based and online work remotely? Ask yourself, what are the skills that can help you to excel in working from home. You need to have the vision, or else you will be overwhelmed.
Thirdly, If you are thinking to start work from home, consider if you have funds to support yourself or your family while starting your niche. If you don’t have anyone to support you, save some money first before leaving your present job, enough to support yourself while getting back to your own feet. You should have a layout plan of your vision; if it is a business, you must have a business plan and do your own feasibility study if the business you are thinking is possible. Do some research on what will be profitable in the market.
Lastly, ask yourself if working from home will be your bread and butter or just a side hustle. Weigh everything before jumping to a conclusion. You might be just burned out in your present job, so you are thinking of starting on your own. Work From Home as being self-employed and working remotely is two different things; it is a choice. While working from home, you can be employed by a company but just working remotely, so the benefits are also different.
Being Self-Employed, meaning being ready for your own expenses, paying your own health insurance, and saving for your own retirement. Be prepared for what life will take you; you cannot have the regular salary as a full-time employee in the company. Sometimes you have income, sometimes you don’t have it; it depends on your business and what you do. Be on guard of your expenses. So, whatever your plans for your future, do things that can make you happy. Start a career that will compliment your skills and make you fulfilled as a human and person. Be brave and don’t be afraid of failures; you are the one building your own career; if you fail, never give up but serve it as an inspiration, just keep going. Success comes for those who persevere.
